Menabo Cosmic Pro: two bike racks, one concept

If you want to transport bikes or e-bikes by car, camper or motorhome, you’re usually looking for a solution that combines high load capacity with easy handling. That’s exactly where the Cosmic Pro series from Italian manufacturer Menabo comes in.

You can choose between the Menabo Cosmic Pro 2 for two bikes and the larger Cosmic Pro 3 for three bikes. Both models mount on the towbar, fold up, and have a maximum payload of 60 kg.

What makes the Menabo Cosmic Pro stand out?

The Cosmic Pro combines a sturdy steel frame with aluminium wheel rails. The series was developed for classic bikes as well as modern e-bikes and fatbikes.

  • foldable design for space-saving storage
  • quick mounting on the towbar
  • tilt mechanism via foot pedal
  • lockable rack attachment
  • lockable bike holders
  • e-bike and fatbike compatibility
  • maximum payload of 60 kg
  • TÜV-GS-tested version
  • Made in Italy

Cosmic Pro 2 – for two bikes and e-bikes

The Menabo Cosmic Pro 2 is designed for two bikes and is especially suitable for couples or travellers who want to take two e-bikes, trekking bikes, mountain bikes or fatbikes with them.

With a maximum payload of 60 kg, the rack offers enough reserve even for heavier bikes. The rack itself weighs 19 kg. It supports bikes with 22″ to 29″ wheels, tyre widths up to 110 mm, and a wheelbase up to 1,130 mm.

Cosmic Pro 3 – when you need to take one more bike

The Menabo Cosmic Pro 3 is the right option for families and travellers who regularly want to transport three bikes. This model also has a maximum payload of 60 kg, but weighs 22.2 kg itself.

Bike compatibility largely matches the Cosmic Pro 2: 22″ to 29″ wheel size, up to 110 mm tyre width, and up to 1,130 mm wheelbase. Round frame tubes may be 23 to 75 mm in diameter; for oval frame profiles, the range is 30 × 50 to 50 × 75 mm.

Technically, both models are very similar. The key decision is therefore the number of bike slots you need. If you usually travel as a pair, the Cosmic Pro 2 benefits from its lower weight and more compact folded size. For three bikes, the Cosmic Pro 3 offers the extra space without giving up the core features of the smaller version.

Handy when travelling: access to the boot

With towbar-mounted racks, access to the boot is an important topic. The Cosmic Pro has a tilt mechanism that’s released via a foot pedal. This lets the rack tilt back so that, on many vehicles, the boot remains accessible even with the bikes mounted.

This is especially convenient on longer trips, because you don’t have to remove the bikes completely every time you need luggage from the vehicle.

Important for panel vans and motorhomes

For vehicles with large rear doors—such as the Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper or Mercedes Sprinter—you should check before buying whether the rack’s tilt angle is sufficient to open the doors fully. Depending on the vehicle, towbar and installation situation, a swing-away system may be the better solution.

Is the Cosmic Pro suitable for heavy e-bikes?

In principle, yes. Both Cosmic Pro models are designed for e-bikes and have a maximum payload of 60 kg. However, what matters is not only the bike rack’s load capacity, but also the permitted nose weight of the towbar or the vehicle.

With the Cosmic Pro 2, the rack’s own weight of 19 kg is added to the bike weight. Two bikes weighing 50 kg in total already result in a load of around 69 kg on the towbar. With the Cosmic Pro 3, the rack itself weighs 22.2 kg. Especially with heavy e-bikes, the permitted nose weight should therefore always be checked before travelling.

Fatbike? Up to 110 mm tyre width

A plus point of the Cosmic Pro series is the relatively wide wheel holders. Menabo specifies a maximum tyre width of 110 mm, or around 4.3 inches. This means that, in addition to city, trekking and mountain bikes, many fatbikes can also be transported directly on the rack.

For the frame holders, round tubes from 23 to 75 mm are supported. Oval frame profiles may be between 30 × 50 and 50 × 75 mm.

Quick to mount on the towbar

Attachment to the towbar is done via a quick-release system. The rack is placed on the towball, aligned, and then secured using the integrated clamping mechanism. After installation, you must check that the rack sits firmly on the towbar with no play.

This system is especially interesting for users who don’t leave the bike rack on the vehicle permanently, but mount it regularly and remove it again after the trip.

Space-saving after the trip

After use, both versions can be folded up. When folded, the Cosmic Pro 2 is about 644 mm wide, and the Cosmic Pro 3 about 774 mm. The depth is around 410 mm for both models. This means the rack can be stored relatively space-savingly in a garage, cellar or motorhome.

Which Cosmic Pro is right for me?

Choose the Cosmic Pro 2 if …

  • you usually transport two bikes
  • you want to take two e-bikes
  • lower weight is important
  • you want a more compact folded size

Conclusion

The Menabo Cosmic Pro is an interesting solution for travellers looking for a robust, foldable towbar-mounted bike rack. A maximum payload of 60 kg, e-bike and fatbike compatibility, quick mounting, tilt function and anti-theft protection cover the key requirements for holidays, camping and regular bike trips.

For two bikes, the more compact Cosmic Pro 2 is the obvious choice. If you need a third bike slot, the Cosmic Pro 3 gives you the larger version with largely identical features.
